It’s that time of the Grace church year…”Soup Sunday” as some of us call it! The real title is FRIENDSHIP SUNDAY which we celebrate around Valentine’s Day. This year it will be held on February 9th. It’s a day when we purposely invite friends to join us for worship followed by tasting delicious soups cooked up by Grace chefs. Grace Place wafts amazing aromas as around 20 soups are delivered (some as early as 9AM) contained in crockpots. Our winter weather in Joliet makes this a mighty attractive event. We will start serving right after the 10:30am service.
Please use the sign-up in the narthex to share your intent to bring a crockpot of your favorite soup recipe, or to bring a dessert to share. Yes, our dessert table is as inviting as the soup tasting!
Human Relations Day - The United Methodist Church celebrates Human Relations Day, (Jan. 19) the Sunday before the observance of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday, to further the development of better human relations by involving congregations in community and youth outreach.
Flower Calendar—What a wonderful way to commemorate a special occasion, remember a loved one, or celebrate a joyous occasion then with beautiful flowers that would be displayed prominently on the altar or one of the tables in the church. Just fill out an Altar Flower Form (found next to the Flower Calendar on the bulletin board in the Narthex) and turn in to the office two weeks before.
Mission of the Month—Solar Oven Partners UMC (#418812)
The solar oven training and distribution program works in the Dominican Republic to provide the knowledge and tools to alleviate hunger through clean, affordable solar cooking. Primary activities are 1) education in the concept of solar box cooking to conserve family income and reduce clear-cutting of trees for fuel, and 2) training in the use of solar cooking. SOP has previously distributed over 10,000 solar ovens in Haiti.
Cushions Available for Use—Cushions are available in the front outside the door and the back of the sanctuary on the ushers table to help make your time at Grace UMC more enjoyable. You may take a cushion and return it after the service
Daycare board will be meeting on Tues. Jan 21, 20110 at 6:30.
2019 Financial Giving Statements are now available for pick-up at the kiosk outside the church office. Please help us save postage costs and pick up your statement today.
